“There’s a lot of spiritual connection in what I do. When I am centered, I help others be centered; when I show up calm, I help bring order to chaos.”

“I was born in Germany and raised in Sierra Leone. I came to Canada to complete my undergraduate and graduate studies in leadership and organizational development. I love the idea of developing human potential and wanted to understand in particular what makes people thrive beyond adversity.

In health care, we’re facing complex questions that require thinking in transformative ways. Part of what I do as a social scientist is to help people think, be, and do things differently to accomplish the results they want. For me, nothing about my life is disconnected. There’s a lot of spiritual connection in what I do. When I am centered, I help others be centered; when I show up calm, I help bring order to chaos.

I’m also a writer. I’m often the one at a dinner party who’s asked where I’m from and I have a story collection, Identities, which was sparked by these questions. My identities include: African, Canadian, a woman of faith, a wife, a mother, a refugee, an immigrant, and a professional. I am all and none of those identities independently. My storytelling is about sharing fuller narratives that go beyond stereotypes to expand world views, restore humane ways of seeing others, and create transformational change.”
