This week's kudos go to our wonderful, caring staff at Eagle Ridge, Chilliwack General, Royal Columbian, Surrey Memorial hospitals, Jim Pattison Outpatient Care and Surgery Centre, and Environmental Health Services.

I am writing to follow up on my 16-year-old son's recent experience at Eagle Ridge Hospital Emergency on the early evening of Sunday, March 4. I am not writing to complain, rather to praise the staff we encountered and witnessed doing their remarkable jobs. And also, to let the duty doctor who cared for my son know that his diagnosis, while absolutely valid for the symptoms presenting at the time, later turned out to be a very intense and unusual case of shingles. Without the tell-tale rash, there was no way the doctor could have anticipated this condition.

Thank you, emergency staff, for taking such good care of patients. While in the waiting room, we watched both the registration administrator and the security guard handle a distressed elderly lady with great compassion and care. We also saw a little three-year-old who had come in on her birthday receive a free little teddy bear. These emergency workers go above and beyond and we are extremely grateful for all they do.

Thank you Environmental Health Services for the restaurant reviews on your website. Nice to know you are out there inspecting.

In late February I was admitted to Emergency at Chilliwack General Hospital after suffering another blackout, the last of many over the past two years. The emergency staff treated me with professional care and kindness. At this time I met Dr. Ballard, who spent a lot of time reviewing my files and discussing these events with me, exploring many options, conferring with cardiologists, and arranging an angiogram at Royal Columbian Hospita). Dr. Ballard was truly amazing, as I have suffered this condition for over two years. After I had the procedure at Royal Columbian Hospital, the cardiologist told me my ‘plumbing’ is fine but I needed to see the ‘electrician’. The electrical cardiologist saw me immediately and arranged for me to have a pacemaker implanted at the Jim Pattison Outpatient Care and Surgery Centre.

Throughout all this, I was treated by staff at all three locations with extraordinary care and kindness. I hope you can convey my thanks to all those people who took such good care of me and a special thank you to the nurses at Chilliwack 3rd floor, who had to put up with me for most of this time. Thank you with all my heart, (and pacemaker).

Last night I went to Surrey Memorial Hospital and Dr. David King and the nurse (unfortunately I have forgotten her name) gave beyond exceptional care in the emergency department.
